The RGLI's Big 2025

Well, 2025 is already off to a flying start as we speed towards the end of the first quarter year already. We may have been quiet for a few months, but we have been very busy behind the scenes, building on the success of 2024.
We welcomed Martin Proudlove and Yvonne Wainwright to the Board of Trustees, and with our special thanks to them both for the work they have already done in growing the RGLI and pushing its boundaries.
Our existing team is strengthened by the very capable Colin Dodd and Mike Elward with Michele Hubert helping take forwards our events section. We continue to owe a huge debit of gratitude to Jenny Vaudin, Chris Nichole and Paul Smith. But also, not to forget the team of volunteers and spouses that help us get out and about in the community. Thanks to you all, we couldn't do it without you.
Meet The Team You can visit or take part with the RGLI at some key Guernsey Events this year, as we have signed up with our Gazebo, and have a wide collection of merchandise and memorabilia. And with more events than ever. Here are some of those dates for your diary, and if you would like to know more or be part of it, contact michele@rgli.org
Vier Marche at Sausmarez Park on 7th July
Motorsport SeaFront Sunday on 13th July
The North Show & Battle of Flowers on 20th & 21st August
Association of Guernsey Charities SeaFront Sunday on 14th September
Student Exchange Between Sunday 6th and Saturday 12th April our new Exchange Students from Masnieres will once again be in the island, catching up on the best of Guernsey and finding out more about the home of the soldiers who came to defend their town so many years ago. Matched with local students, developing lasting bonds, we will be returning that visit with our students visiting Masnieres for a week in early June. See more about Masnieres here www.masnieres.fr
Twinning As part of the ongoing twinning events of St Peter Port and Masnieres this year, the Constables and Douzaine will be hosting a Vin D'Honeur during the student visit in April. Numbers are very limited, but if you have an interest in the RGLI and would like to attend please email colin.dodd@rgli.org
Liberation
We are delighted that our States have formally invited representatives from the French schools to be part of the 80th Anniversary of Liberation. Led by Christelle Guedin & Agnes LeCas they will be accompanied by Head Teachers Benoit Le Port and Valerie Berger and a selection of students from their schools, College Jacques Prevert and Hostetter Primary School. If you would like to know more or how to get involved contact yvonne@rgli.org
The Rue Verte Flag Every year we send a new Guernsey flag to Masnieres to be raised above our RGLI memorial for 12 months before it is replaced by another and returned home. That new flag has already been on hung below the RGLI colours in the Town Church (the RGLI regimental chapel) for a full twelve months, keeping an everlasting connection between the two communities.
This year, for the first time, we will be presenting one of the returned Rue Verte flags to a local family who had two brothers in the RGLI, of which only one returned. Watch for more updates on when to see this.
If you know a local family who's relative served in the regiment and you think would like one of the very few Rue Verte flags, we would love to hear from you, please get in touch with chris@rgli.org
Regimental Dinner
On Friday 20th June the RGLI are proud to restore the Annual RGLI Regimental dinner which will be held at Elizabeth College Hall. Attended by the Bailiff and His Excellency, the Regimental Silver will be on display as we recreate that traditional event last seen in 1930. If you are interested in more information or would like to attending, please contact colin.dodd@rgli.org
For some charities that may look like be a busy full year, but note for the RGLI that is just the first half of this year.
Look out for some special new surprises in our merchandise catalogue as we bring back the RGLI Regimental Tie (pictures to follow), we are also looking to remake the RGLI flag affordable so that people can put on their own flagpoles and celebrate 'Guernsey's Own'.
Later this year we will look forward to another round of the RGLI quiz and you can contact michele@rgli.org if you are interested or have a team
Our regular commemorative and memorial event in late November that takes place at the same time at both memorials in Guernsey and France. For further details contact martin@rglil.org
